A Little History of the Genre and Some Unpopular Christian Pop Artists

Since its modest origins in the 1980s, the Christian music genre has radically evolved. The Christian music genre has grown from ska-style songs such as “Jesus Is My Friend” by Sonseed and “I Feel So Alive” by Capital Kings.

Rock, country, rap, and praise music are all kinds of Christian music that exist today. In light of this, we present a list of three lesser-known Christian singers who, I believe, can garner your attention this year. Here are several artists you may not be familiar with but who merit your attention:

Christopher Howland

Chris Howland, once known as the producer of the German band Audicid, has enjoyed music ever since he was a child. At age 12, he bought his first synthesizer keyboard, and at age 13, he started writing music.

Howland disproves the notion that Christian pop songs are “stuck in the 1980s” by composing modern house music and rhythmic EDM music that does not sound like Abba and The Pointer Sisters. “I’ll Remember This,” his one collaboration with Christian producer and singer Matthew Parker.

One of the most brilliant Christian pop bands is the British EDM group Twelve24. Their Deep House hit “Higher” (which blends deep bass rhythms with a disco flair) has become popular in both secular and Christian communities. In addition to Deep House, the band also composes music in the trap and tropical house genres.

This lesser-known Christian pop music group also originates from the United Kingdom, like Twelve24. In addition to the EDM genre, they also compose music in other genres. Their song “You Are Mine” is an excellent tropical house tune.

Where Can One Locate New Christian Musicians?

Clearly, Christian music is broadening its horizons and, in my view, its compositional talents are much better than those of its secular rivals. The Christian rapper NF’s song “Let You Down” is a big hit in several countries, including the United States.

Cross Nation is a Christian YouTube channel showcasing lesser-known artists such as Marshall Marshall and Jeremy James Whitaker. This channel is also a terrific music resource for Christians.
